This is Michael Collins talking to Kilkenny hurlers before the 1921 Senior Hurling Championship match against Dublin at Croke Park. Dublin beat Kilkenny 4-4 to 1-5 in front of 17,000 spectators. Michael Collins threw in the ball to start the game. The Irish Independent (Monday, 12 September 1921) reported that: "Mr. Frank Walsh, the American representative, asked during the game what he thought of it remarked naively: "It is too fast to follow". This was a fitting description of the first half, when quite a large number of hurleys were broken." Date: Sunday, 11 September 1921 NLI Ref.: INDH399
