Cell Phones
A decade long study of cell phone safety found that extreme use of cell phone increase the dangers of human developing brain cancer in their later years. They researched three different kinds of cancer involving cancer of the brain and parotid gland tumors. The presence of cancer after using a cell phone for ten years was commonly found. Electromagnetic radiation, such as the radiation given off from power lines, is transmitted any time a cell phone connects to the cell phone tower. This type of radiation has been proven to cause cancer. When the phone is held up to the ear the radiation enters the brain. It is especially dangerous for young children.
This study was carried out by the World Health Organization along with the International Agency for Cancer research. Twelve countries were involved in the study. Dr. Elisabeth Cardis told the newspapers that even though the study did not have conclusive outcomes, people should be advised of the possible effect the radiation could have on them. She warned that it was extremely important to use safeguards against this radiation.
The study advised that cell phone use by children should be limited. They did not have any intentions of trying to ban cell phone use by children because that is often the way the communicate with their parents. There are obviously many benefits to your child having a cell phone, but at the same time, every precaution should be made to shield him from the radiation that is emitted.
The hands free devices are believed to subject cell phone users to much less radiation. Studies are being done to try and find out just how much that the hands free devices like blue-tooth lower the chance of cancers in the brain.
The Journal of Clincal Oncology examine the analysis that involved human brain cancer and cell phones. They found out that if a good quality of research was used it was clear that there was about an 18% increase chance of having brain cancer by cell phone users. It was noted that the tumors usually appeared on the side of the head where the phone was held most of the time.
The United States refused to participate in the research program. There a close to 300 million cell phone users in the United Sates. The Health Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee promised that they would dig deeper into the problem linking cell phone users to malignant brain tumors.
No study has shown that limited cell phone use will cause brain cancer. A large population study in Sweden showed that the people who had used cell phones regualarly for ten years or more on one side of their head had a 40% higher chance of some kinds of malignant brain tumors. The Interphone study supported the data that was found by the Swedish research.
Cell phone users should put distance between themselves and their cell phones whenever possible by texting or using hands free device. It is believed to lower the risk of brain cancer caused by cell phone usage.
